PIKE RESEARCH GROUP
Research
The Pike group is a member of the Molecular Synthesis and Biological Chemistry research section in the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham.
Our research is primarily in the field of synthetic supramolecular chemistry and focuses on the development of synthetic helical oligomers (foldamers) and methods for controlling their folding behaviour in solution and the solid state.
Development of Functional Foldamers
Foldamers: Synthetic helical oligomers that adopt well-defined secondary structures are termed foldamers. Work in the group focuses on identifying the key factors that govern the conformational behaviour of biomimetic foldamers in solution and the solid state. We employ a range of different spectroscopic techniques to study their folding behaviour including NMR spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction.
